The KnoxBox®, a high-security key lock box, is a secure device operable only by the San Francisco Fire Department's secure master key. Mandated under California Fire Code (CFC) Section 506 and local SFFD Administrative Bulletin 5.05, it provides emergency rapid-entry access, eliminating costly forced entry damage during fire or medical emergencies.

SFFD Requirement:

Must be mounted adjacent to the primary entry door on the lock side. Standard height is 48 to 60 inches above the finished floor to the center of the box.

Does Reed Brothers Security hold the master key?
No. By strict regulations, only the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) has the master key to access your KnoxBox. We provide professional mounting but do not have opening authority.
Once mounted, contact the SFFD Bureau of Fire Prevention at 1660 Mission St. An inspector will visit your property to secure the keys inside using their secure master key.
Per SFFD Administrative Bulletin 5.05, the center of the box must be mounted between 48 and 60 inches above the finished floor on the latch side of the entrance door.
